  • MEESA students earned first and third place honors at Congressman Scott's App Challenge reception held Feb. 7 at Brooks Crossing Innovation and Opportunity Center + the Library Logistics App streamlined checkouts and a facial recognition app eased ID checks with Mayor Jones and School Board Chair Dr. Best in attendance.  Newport News Public Schools
  • ODU’s School of Cybersecurity has partnered with U.S. Cyber Command to study AI vulnerabilities and build stronger defenses. The project, led by three Ph.D. students and engaging nearly 1,700 prospects, will share early results at a Cyber Command symposium in April — officials expect it could also lead to internships.  13News Now

  • Langley FCU announced today its solid 2025 performance with a 184% net income increase and growth in assets and membership, while also boosting community support through financial literacy workshops and charity initiatives (including MLK Jr. Day of Service and a summer food drive).  Hampton Roads Chamber

HEALTH NEWS

  • Adults in the region can now receive specialized bleeding disorder care closer to home after VCU Health launched a quarterly clinic at VCU Health at William & Mary in Williamsburg last fall — the move aims to ease long travel times for treatment.  13News Now
  • During Mental Health Awareness Month, Newport News residents are encouraged to try ballroom dancing to boost mental and physical health. Ballroom dancing helps reduce stress, improve mood & build community through learning new steps and forming social connections.  Hampton Roads Chamber

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Newport News is seeking state support for the Homeport Hampton Roads project, which will offer 750 apartments and 10,000 sqft of retail space near the shipyard — construction is set to begin later this year and continue in phases until 2031 as city leaders work for a $40 million state loan.  WTKR
