EDUCATION NEWS

  • Newport News Public Schools teams earned top honors at the Regional Odyssey of the Mind Tournament on March 15 at Menchville High School. Teams from An Achievable Dream Academy, McIntosh Elementary, Yates Elementary, B.T. Washington Middle and Warwick High School showed strong creative skills and Warwick and B.T. Washington will compete in the Virginia State Tournament on April 26—students spent months solving creative problems.  Newport News Public Schools

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Military families who plan to move have raised concerns over the Defense Department’s new Global Household Goods Contract with HomeSafe Alliance after displays of poor oversight in 2024 moves—resulting in lower reimbursement rates. Families can choose to cover their moving costs out-of-pocket and then seek reimbursement as HomeSafe Alliance works to improve its support and logistics.  WAVY

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tuesday—The Norfolk Tides unveiled their new Copa de la Diversión identity called Caballitos del Mar with light blue uniforms and a seahorse mascot featuring a sugar skull design. The team developed the rebranding with the Chamber for Hispanic Progress after five years as the Pajaritos and will use the new look for select games at Harbor Park this season.  13News Now
