EDUCATION NEWS

  • On March 18, Newport News Public Schools held its first Senior Rally at Christopher Newport University’s Freeman Center, where seniors preparing to graduate in June heard Dr. Adolph Brown III share personal lessons and advice—mixing interactive talk with inspiring activities. School officials and cheerleaders energized the crowd—ensuring students felt supported as they looked forward to graduation.  Newport News Public Schools

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chesapeake VA clinic is set to open on April 17 with a ribbon-cutting on April 10—and the facility will have only about 150 of the planned 550 staffers due to federal hiring cuts. Local officials say the new clinic will give more than 120,000 veterans faster access to care near Chesapeake.  13News Now
  • The City of Newport News is re-examining a 120-unit affordable housing apartment development on Old Fort Eustis Blvd backed by retired NBA star Allen Iverson after the proposal was rejected in February. Mayor Phillip Jones said the proposal will return to the planning commission in four to six months after community meetings begin in April—developers plan to add a stop light at the key intersection if needed—to address neighborhood traffic concerns.  WTKR
