CRIME NEWS

  • Thomas Davenport Jr., a Norfolk man, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Monday after he shot at an officer patrolling in an unmarked van in Virginia Beach—he admitted to the charges during an investigation following a series of vehicle break-ins.  13News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • DAV Chapter 21 will host a public ceremony this Saturday, March 29, at 10 a.m. at the Armed Forces Memorial Monument in Town Point Park to honor Vietnam War veterans and their families — marking the 50th anniversary of the war's end.  13News Now
  • Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin proposed more than 200 amendments to the state budget that lawmakers will review until next Tuesday. The proposals include tax relief, teacher bonuses, first responder travel funds, disaster relief, Medicaid protections and a plan to designate Oak Hill as a state park — all contingent on cities cooperating with immigration officials.  13News Now
  • The governor has 550 bills on his desk after over 900 were sent in, approving 180 new bills that support investment and ban seven food dyes in school meals—DHS will revoke protections for about 532,000 immigrants on April 24. A Hampton man faced more than 30 charges after a car chase on Friday led to his arrest on Route 58 and I-95 by state and local police.  WTKR
  • Veteran reporter Mike Gooding will retire on April 1—after a 40-year career covering the search for missing U.S. military personnel from the Vietnam War. His Emmy-nominated documentary The Healing Journey shows that teams have identified over 1,000 remains while nearly 1,600 soldiers are still unaccounted for as the mission continues under the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency.  13News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Virginia Beach pediatrician said her office was ready to check patients for measles after a Maryland resident traveled through Reagan National Airport on March 14 as more than 300 cases were reported nationwide. She advised families to get the measles vaccine—this remains the best protection while the Virginia Department of Health contacts those exposed.  WTKR
