- ➤ Nearly a dozen community organizations in Hampton Roads will host two vigils on Saturday, April 12 to support those affected by violence—one at Flatiron Park in Norfolk at 10 a.m. and another at Buckroe Beach Pavilion in Hampton at 3 p.m. Survivors and advocates will share their stories to drive healing and guide future actions. 13News Now
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A child was hospitalized after an accidental shooting on North Avenue Sunday night as officers responded at 9:54 p.m.—the minor suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound and medics transported the victim to a nearby hospital while police said they are not pursuing any suspects. 13News Now
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A man was summoned after discharging his firearm during a physical altercation with his wife in Newport News on Sunday evening when officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert at 5:45 p.m.—37-year-old Terrell Hicks faced charges for shooting in a public place, shooting across a road, and reckless handling of a firearm with no injuries reported. - ➤ Over the weekend, four shootings in Hampton Roads left five minors injured at Dundale Square, Hampton and Newport News—police fatally shot a suspect during a domestic incident on Dehaven Court. 13News Now

- ➤ Middle and high school students in Newport News took part in an Engineering Design Challenge on March 28 at Crittenden Middle School where they built a gantry crane with real shipyard guidelines. Warwick High School Team 1 won the overall contest, while Passage Middle School 6th Grade Team took first in their division + teams were recognized for creative thinking and teamwork.
