Veterans gathered on Saturday morning at Naval Station Norfolk to mark the 36th anniversary of the USS Iowa turret explosion by reading the names of 47 sailors killed on April 19 and ringing a bell after each name—honoring their sacrifice.
A gun barrel from the Iowa is on display at Fort Story—while the ship now serves as a floating museum in California.
