  • The Hampton Roads Workforce Council will hold its Regional Job Fair at Chesapeake Convention Center on June 17 from 10am to 3pm, and an Application Fest Tour will preview 50-60 employers from 15 localities in the weeks before the event + offering a sneak peek at hiring opportunities. Participating companies will serve as Highlighted Employers by interviewing candidates only at the fair for a fee of $150 + which covers 2 representatives and 2 lunches.  Hampton Roads Chamber

CRIME NEWS

  • Police responded to a shooting on the 800 block of 35th Street around 3:15 p.m. Friday in Newport News where 39-year-old Barney Kittles, Jr. was taken to hospital and later died at 4:39 p.m.—no suspect information has been reported at this time.  13News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A criminal justice reform forum was held Monday at Ivy Baptist Church in Newport News where Rep. Bobby Scott, Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi, and criminal justice advocate Kemba Smith Pradia discussed policy changes and the need for evidence-based approaches — Pradia shared her personal incarceration story and stressed reform to better support inmates.  WAVY
  • The Newport News NAACP hosted the Voices for Justice forum that brought local and national leaders together to discuss urgent criminal justice reform. Panelists stressed the need for fair reforms and the removal of barriers for formerly incarcerated people—an effort led by figures such as Rep. Bobby Scott and Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi.  13News Now

  • NFL legend Michael Vick kicked off his new role as head coach at Norfolk State during Saturday's spring game at Dick Price Stadium by stepping onto the field before players arrived to set a new tone for Spartan football.
