Hurricane season will start on June 1 with new weather alerts that give residents more time to prepare— the National Hurricane Center will use an experimental cone of uncertainty and issue rip current risk maps for coastal areas while Colorado State University forecasts 17 named storms, nine hurricanes and four major hurricanes.

Today, Newport News City Council approved rezoning a vacant lot at 350 Yorktown Road for a plan to build 620 housing units on the historic Endview Plantation.

The project will include 393 single family homes and 182 townhomes+ nearly 32,000 square feet of commercial space+ and 125 acres of open space that will preserve historic features, and it is expected to take 7 to 10 years as city officials conduct traffic studies.
