- ➤ Newport News will host a free Juneteenth Freedom Festival on Saturday, June 21 at Victory Landing Park from 3-8 p.m. The festival will feature performances by 702, Sammie, Dru Hill and Jazze Pha and will include community auditions for dancers with Sisqó — offering families a fun, safe day out. - ➤ BayPort Foundation held its Charity Golf Classic on May 1 at James Rivers Country Club—47 businesses sponsored nearly 100 golfers who raised $142,734 to support its scholarship and workforce programs. WTKR

- ➤ A former Riverside Health respiratory therapist filed a federal lawsuit alleging the hospital system deducted 30 minutes each day for meal breaks—even when breaks were missed—and rounded clock times for its benefit. She worked from November 2021 to April 2024 and seeks back pay and liquidated damages for alleged violations of state and federal wage laws. 13News Now

- ➤ Virginia State Police issued a CODI Alert for a missing 12-year-old girl named Winter Ganoe who was last seen walking in the 100 block of Melville Drive—she wore a lilac Hello Kitty shirt, blue pants and princess sneakers—and she is described as having brown hair, hazel eyes and measuring 5-foot-2 at 160 pounds. - ➤ Virginia Opera and the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art are seeking new funds after federal grants were withdrawn, forcing the Opera to cover a $25,000 cost while MOCA needs $33,000 for a student art project. Both groups are appealing the decision—hoping to keep community arts strong. WTKR
