EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Liam Barnstead, a graduating senior at Woodside High School’s Arts and Communications Magnet Program, earned Virginia Music Educators Association All-State Band honors for French horn all four years of high school—an achievement celebrated on May 14 with a surprise gathering that included his family, teachers, and fellow students. He will attend University of Nevada, Las Vegas in the fall and plans a career in music by joining a military band or orchestra. Newport News Public Schools

- ➤ Sen. Tim Kaine said that merging Army Futures Command with Training and Doctrine Command will not change the number of jobs at Fort Eustis today, and officials promised that TRADOC will continue operations from this Newport News base. A TRADOC spokesperson said no final decision has been made on relocating functions or staff (the merger is part of a broader Army reform to cut waste and boost efficiency). WAVY
- ➤ On Monday, reports said that TRADOC might move its headquarters from Fort Eustis as part of a merger with Army Futures Command; however, a TRADOC spokesman said no decision had been made—while Senators Kaine and Warner gave differing views on keeping the command in the area. The future of TRADOC operations remains unclear as officials and lawmakers weigh its impact on local soldiers and families. WTKR
- ➤ Gov. Glenn Youngkin signed Executive Order 48 on Monday to expand measures against antisemitism in public schools and colleges, directing education agencies and the higher education council to create resources to track and address incidents (after a rise in hate incidents following the October 7 attacks).
