- ➤ Mary Cotton and neighbor Darlene Collins in Green Run faced two months of disrupted mail service when a jammed mailbox door forced one to drive six miles for mail and caused the other to incur late fees—leaving them anxious and inconvenienced. WAVY
- ➤ Stew Peters, a far-right figure known for his antisemitic views, is banned from the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel—he was set to speak at the USS Liberty Veterans Association reunion next month. The LVA confirmed that none of the speakers mentioned in a recent flyer will take part in the event. WTKR

- ➤ Best Buy will open at midnight on June 5 for pre-order pickup of the Nintendo Switch 2, which has better visuals and new controller options. Hampton Roads stores will hold a limited number of consoles for walk-in customers—pre-orders began on April 24—and fans are urged to act fast amid high demand. WAVY

- ➤ The Area Port of Norfolk-Newport News recovered 126 stolen vehicle exports during fiscal year 2024 at a total value of more than $6.4 million—down from 180 recoveries in 2023—ranking second nationally among CBP ports and sending most vehicles to West African nations. WAVY
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Families living near the downtown coal terminal have long worried that coal dust is harming their health—studies showed that asthma rates near the terminal were more than double the city average—and said the pollution affected their homes. City leaders continue to search for solutions while Mayor Phillip Jones remains committed to community action and plans to install more coal dust sensors—efforts aimed at tracking pollution and protecting residents—and he said the city did not receive a $20 million federal grant.
