- ➤ Newport News Police arrested Tony Tynes on May 20 for his role in the shooting of Dreshaun Pruden at a convenience store on J Clyde Morris Boulevard on May 17 — court documents show that surveillance footage and Crime Line tips helped link him to the fatal incident. 13News Now
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Ariana Lee, a senior at Woodside High School's Arts and Communications Magnet, will graduate in June and plans to study political science and communications at Stanford after serving in community projects — her experience includes starting a social media page and creating a youth mental health nonprofit — while crediting NNPS teachers for her growth. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The USNS Comfort, a 1,000-bed hospital ship based in Norfolk, will depart Friday morning for a three-month mission to provide medical and humanitarian aid to Grenada, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic as part of Continuing Promise 2025 — a program aimed at strengthening U.S. partnerships in Latin America. 13News Now
- ➤ The City of Newport News has rebranded the Brooks Crossing Innovation and Opportunity Center as the U-Thrive Center to offer job help, education and support services for young people, families and underserved residents. City officials are working with Old Dominion University and Newport News Public Schools and will move staff into the new center this summer while current programs continue and new ones launch. 13News Now
