Williamsburg-based Remix Market and The Junkluggers will host instrument drives on June 6, June 13, and June 20 at Remix Market in Toano to collect gently used brass, woodwind and string instruments for Newport News-based Soundscapes (a nonprofit that offers free music education to local students).

Gov. Spanberger urged all Virginians including our Newport News residents to prepare for hurricane season when addressing the Virginia Emergency Operations Center today.

Residents are encouraged to sign up for wireless alerts, plan evacuation routes, and prepare emergency kits to reduce storm risks.

The Peninsula Health District lifted Huntington Beach’s swimming advisory on Thursday after tests showed the water meets state standards for safe recreational use.

Officials said they routinely test local waters to help protect swimmers throughout the summer.
