  • Today, Four Oaks Day Service Center has been giving water to help unsheltered people beat the heat — street outreach supervisor Tariq Powell said his team made 14 to 15 stops and will soon get water pouches to add to the relief effort.  WTKR

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two fishermen Tron Greene and Waverly Tillar saved four lives near the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel on the James River when they heard cries for help and rescued family members from a sinking boat.  13News Now
  • On June 24, a Newport News man, 90-year-old John Casey, died in a head-on collision on NC 12 near Lela Court in Dare County when 84-year-old Joan Casey crossed into oncoming traffic—she has been charged with driving left—while other occupants were not injured.  WAVY
  • A 17-year-old girl died Wednesday after a three-vehicle crash on Jefferson Avenue in Newport News when the Chevrolet Equinox she rode in hit two other cars—police said the 17-year-old driver was charged with DUI and faces additional charges.  WAVY

  • Virginia will enforce new tech laws starting July 1 that protect child influencers, limit phone use in schools, punish drone trespassing near defense sites as a felony, and bar courts from relying solely on artificial intelligence—measures that aim to improve safety and fairness in the state.  13News Now
  • Virginia Sun Bucks provides eligible families with $120 to spend on groceries this summer—families receiving SNAP, TANF, or income-based assistance get benefits automatically while others can apply online, in person, or by calling the program; benefits will be issued on a rolling basis starting next month.  13News Now
