- ➤ Sentara CarePlex Hospital hosted a week-long summer camp for about a dozen Newport News and Hampton Public Schools students, where they learned about different hospital roles, including organ donation techniques using sheep eyeballs+ practical training. Students said the camp boosted their interest in health care careers and showed that hospital work involves more than a salary+ real insights into daily patient care. WTKR

- ➤ A homeowner in York County said a black bear walked through her backyard around 9:45 p.m. Thursday — knocking over a water fountain and bird feeder — and wildlife officials urged residents to secure outdoor food and trash to discourage future visits. 13News Now

- ➤ Old Dominion University researchers have found black-legged ticks carrying babesiosis in Portsmouth, Chesapeake, and the Eastern Shore—raising health concerns in Hampton Roads. The Virginia Department of Health advises anyone bitten by a tick to seek immediate medical help since the disease can be severe and is hard to treat. WAVY
