CRIME NEWS
- ➤ In Yorktown on July 7, police arrested 35-year-old Robert Benjamin Brown after a traffic stop on Big Bethel Road and Hampton Highway when a police K9 detected drugs—officers seized cocaine, heroin, and a firearm and charged him with several offenses—he is now held at Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail. - ➤ Yorktown police arrested 28-year-old Andrew James Jones II on July 4 after he pointed an AK-47—looking rifle at four people in a car on George Washington Memorial Highway near York High School, and deputies later seized the weapon from his home. WAVY
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Netflix will release a three-part documentary titled 'Amy Bradley Is Missing' on July 16 to explore the case of Amy Lynn Bradley, a local woman who vanished 27 years ago on a Royal Caribbean cruise — the series examines the investigation and theories surrounding her disappearance. The film will feature interviews with her family and archival FBI reports — offering new insights into a mystery that has long puzzled investigators. WAVY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Temporary ramp closures on I-64 eastbound at exit 267 in Hampton began Friday night and will continue until 5 a.m. Monday as VDOT crews install storm pipes for a road improvement project—detour signs guide drivers on alternate routes. WAVY
- ➤ On Saturday, a bus tour organized by the AFL—CIO visited Newport News to protest proposed cuts to agencies like the National Labor Relations Board, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and Veterans Affairs while stressing the need to protect workers' wages, benefits, and job security. Local shipyard worker Chris Puckett and veteran Robert Love voiced their concerns that these cuts could harm worker security and veteran benefits. WTKR
