ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • All northbound lanes of the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel on I-664 are closed because of an incident—crews work to clear the scene and drivers are told to take alternate routes.  13News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Dennis Hisle, the brother of a man on trial for the December 2023 killing of a store owner, defied a judge’s order on Wednesday morning and was held in contempt and sentenced to 12 months in jail — he refused to be sworn in before testifying.  WAVY

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new program funded by a $300,000 grant is giving job seekers in Portsmouth and across Hampton Roads a chance to train for jobs in shipbuilding and healthcare. The Hampton Roads Workforce Council—partnering with local colleges and community organizations—will offer hands-on training in skills like welding, electrical work and healthcare certification with courses starting on Oct. 14.  WTKR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Starting with the 2025-2026 school year, five Newport News schools will have updated start and end times and increased walking distances for bus stops—measures expected to streamline routes and cut travel times.
