- ➤ Newport News will host the 34th Annual Southeast Community Day Parade and Festival on September 5 and 6. Filmmaker Keith A. Beauchamp—who helped reopen the Emmett Till case—will serve as Keynote Speaker and Parade Grand Marshal as music, film screenings and free health services add to the weekend events. 13News Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The U.S. Navy hospital ship USNS Comfort returned to Naval Station Norfolk on Sunday after concluding a summer deployment in the Caribbean, Central and South America — with stops in Grenada, Panama, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Trinidad and Tobago — where its crew provided medical care and worked on humanitarian projects. - ➤ Hampton Roads Transit now offers high school students free unlimited rides on buses, ferries, and light rail using the Student Freedom Pass initiative—students aged 13 to 17 in Newport News and six nearby cities can sign up online or at local centers to ease travel during the school year. 13News Now
