🎓 Education
Newport News Public Schools ran 189 of its 294 buses on propane last year, saving about $439,000 as students head back to school today.
The division chooses propane because it costs $1.14 a gallon compared to diesel's $4.24 rate & supports a long-term plan to replace diesel buses.
Cameron Smith, a senior at Warwick High School, serves as Newport News School Board Student Representative for 2026-2027 after taking the oath on Aug.
18. Hopeton Bailey, a senior at An Achievable Dream Middle and High School, will serve as the alternate when he takes the oath on Sept. 15.
