Newport News police arrested 25-year-old Derrick Ellis Jr.—the suspect in a stolen vehicle investigation linked to a carjacking and robbery on Nettles Drive after shots were fired at officers and a nearby home, with no injuries reported.

Newport News Public Schools students, teachers and staff began classes on August 25 with community groups welcoming them.
