ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Six people died in crashes during Labor Day weekend as Virginia State Police reported that three victims were not wearing seat belts and reminded drivers that every vehicle occupant must be buckled up—extra patrols made many traffic stops over the holiday.  13News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Four people were injured in a dog attack on Monday on Barbour Drive in Newport News—two victims were taken to hospital while Animal Welfare took custody of the dogs as the investigation continues.  13News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Newport News Public Schools’ Telecom program will offer dual enrollment with Old Dominion University this fall, letting rising juniors and seniors earn six college credits through a two-year hands-on curriculum in television production—Telecom Supervisor Ray Price and former intern Brandon Hedgepeth said the program will help students save time and money while starting their college careers.  Newport News Public Schools

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Newport News City Planning Commission voted 5—3 to recommend new rules that would bar new vape shops from operating within 2,000 feet of schools and childcare centers and forbid drive-thrus and tinted windows to protect children and reduce crime. The rules will apply only to new stores and will be reviewed at a city council hearing on September 23.  13News Now
