Newport News Public Schools will host a community update on October 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Hines Middle School where they will share updates on transportation, zoning, and Magnet and Specialty Programs—recordings and a survey will be available after the event.

Thrive Peninsula, a nonprofit serving local families, is expanding its help to federal workers and their families affected by the government shutdown that began Monday—offering walk-in hours and financial aid to prevent evictions and provide basic groceries.

The organization on Nettles Drive is preparing for more requests from furloughed workers including those from NASA and the military.
