Newport News Police Department partners with local advocates to run a donation drive for Transitions Family Violence Services, collecting items like diapers and gift cards until October 31 at the commissioner of revenue offices.

Domestic violence survivor Kioni Jefferson now helps volunteers at Transitions and the department notes rising abuse cases — a domestic violence awareness walk runs today at City Center Fountain at 5 p.m.

Newport News Public Schools officials celebrated the opening of Menchville High School's fully refurbished courtyard on October 20 — the space now features an outdoor auditorium, new furniture, landscaping, and fencing funded by Ulliman Schutte-Alberici Joint Venture, Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc., and several local companies. The revamped area will host school events and community gatherings to enhance learning and interaction.
