CULTURE NEWS

- ➤ Meteorologist Taylor explained that even though spring days feel warm, the ocean water in our area stays cold, posing risks for beachgoers. The Coast Guard and National Weather Service run a Cold Water Program to issue alerts until the water warms in May—when it is expected to rise from the 60s to the upper 70s by mid-summer. 13News Now

- ➤ Virginia senators and delegates sent a bipartisan letter to the USDA asking for answers after cuts to TEFAP—key funding that provided 20% of food to local food banks—left low-income families at risk. Local food banks reported that pantry visits increased by more than 20% and costs rose five times since 2019 as officials work with other pantries to cover shortages. 13News Now
