EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Newport News Public Schools students built three-dimensional art with donated cans at the Youth Volunteer Corps Annual Canstructure Competition on April 26 at Patrick Henry Mall—over 18,844 cans were given to the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula. An Achievable Dream Academy won Grand Champion while Ella Fitzgerald Middle School, Richneck Elementary School, and Denbigh High School also earned awards—teams showcased their creative designs. - ➤ Governor Glenn Youngkin ordered flags to be flown at half-staff today in Virginia—honoring those lost to fentanyl poisoning as part of Fentanyl Awareness Day. The flags will remain raised until sunset—paying tribute to families affected by the crisis. WAVY
- ➤ USS Oak Hill left Naval Station Norfolk on Monday to join Exercise Chesapeake 2025 — a joint training event with the French Marine Nationale — where U.S. and French forces will conduct flight operations, landing craft air cushion certifications, amphibious landings and personnel exchanges to boost their defense partnership. 13News Now
