Hampton police arrested 19-year-old Izayah Jeanty and 18-year-old Antonette Jefferson for their roles in an April shooting near Topping Lane and Old Big Bethel Road after Newport News man Jayland Kelley was shot and later died on April 18.

Virginia Peninsula Community College will break ground next month at 9:30 a.m. on August 12 at 520 21st Street in downtown Newport News on a new 16,000-square-foot center that will train over 400 students annually in maritime and construction careers such as welding, HVAC, plumbing and marine electrical trades — the project aims to boost workforce opportunities in an underserved neighborhood.
