CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Newport News police arrested 25-year-old Derrick Ellis Jr.—the suspect in a stolen vehicle investigation linked to a carjacking and robbery on Nettles Drive after shots were fired at officers and a nearby home, with no injuries reported. 13News Now
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Newport News Public Schools students, teachers and staff began classes on August 25 with community groups welcoming them. Superintendent Michele Mitchell visited several schools—such as Heritage and Huntington—to greet everyone and support the start of the new school year. Newport News Public Schools
