Norfolk and Virginia Beach SPCAs responded to a hoarding case in Giles County that left nearly 200 dogs in severe neglect—after rescuers moved around 130 dogs off the property, the agencies took in roughly 20 dogs to begin care this afternoon.

A new study from William and Mary’s Batten School of Coastal Marine Sciences and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science shows Chesapeake Bay’s eelgrass is shrinking while widgeon grass is expanding—changes that may alter the Bay’s food web.

The study warns that this shift could cut invertebrate biomass by up to 63 percent by 2060 and influence future restoration efforts.
