Newport News' count on a 1% sales tax for school construction was still coming in late Tuesday. WAVY reported 62% no and 38% yes with 56% reporting as of 10:30 p.m. WHRO said results weren't complete for Newport News or Norfolk as of 11:30 p.m.

The question was on ballots because of a recently passed state law. In June, the General Assembly expanded the tax statewide, with voter approval. Both outlets report it failed in York, Isle of Wight and Mathews counties.

The Wrap

Duke of Gloucester Street goes back to the 18th century after dark when the Lighting of the Cressets brings strolling musicians to Williamsburg on Friday, Nov. 6, from 6 to 9 p.m. It's a fan-favorite tradition, and it's free. Strolling musicians and no admission sounds like a good Friday.
